Salary Range: $28,579 - $40,248
Performs responsible protective work Law Enforcement operations; does related work as required. Work is often performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard.
Typical
Tasks:
Performs protective service work in prevention, detection and investigation
of violations of the law; patrols designated areas to maintain public
safety; directs traffic and works traffic accidents; responds to emergencies
or public requests for assistance; prepares and maintains state and
department forms and reports; analyzes situations and acts without direct
supervision based on sound judgment and ethical discretion; properly uses
and maintains firearms; makes arrests when appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to perform all duties with professionalism, compassion, fairness, integrity, respect, and competence; general knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City; ability to perform hazardous work under adverse conditions; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and the public; ability to maintain mental alertness during extended periods of work; must be able to communicate with public and other employees clearly and effectively in person, by two-way radio, and in writing; Must be able to work twelve hour rotating shifts.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and
experience equivalent to graduation from high school, must be B.L.E.T
certified or currently enrolled in the B.L.E.T. classes. Documentation of
current enrollment from school director required.
Special Requirements: Must meet a minimum age requirement (20 years old) an pass pre-placement medical examination to include drug screen and psychological examination. Background investigation will include check of credit history, driving record and criminal history. Possession of a valid NC driver’s license required. Must live within a 50-mile radius of the City of Kinston. Subject to emergency callback.
