Greg Thompson
Interim Chief

Chief Thompson began his career with the Kinston Police Department in 1988 as a Patrol Officer assigned to the Patrol Division. During his tenure with the City of Kinston he has been assigned to various positions and ranks within the department. He has held the following assignments: Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Investigator, Criminal Investigator, Crime Scene Unit-Sergeant, Criminal Investigations-Lieutenent, Criminal Investigations-Commander, Patrol Shift-Commander, SWAT Officer/Commander, Criminal Investigations and Support Services Major, and is currently serving as Interim Director of Public Safety.

Chief Thompson has been recognized as an Expert Witness in the fields of Crime Scene Processing and Fingerprint Examinations by the North Carolina Superior Courts and the Federal Courts of the United States.

Chief Thompson holds an Associate's degree in Applied Science in Criminal Justice and completed management courses through North Carolina State University. He is a 1995 graduate of the North Carolina Justice Academy - Criminal Investigator's Academy.

 

     
  Marilyn Dunk
Administrative Manager I

Marilyn began her career with the City of Kinston in 1986 as a Secretary in the Finance Department and in 1994 transferred to the Fire Department. In 2003, the Fire and Police Departments merged into Public Safety where she was promoted to Administrative Manager I.

She has attended Essex College of Business (Newark, NJ) and Lenoir Community College taking various business courses.
     
     
     
 

Jenee Eubanks
Interim Major, Criminal Investigation Division

Major Eubanks began her career after graduation from East Carolina University in May of 1993 with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. She began working with the Kinston Police Department in July of 1993. Major Eubanks has worked her way up through the ranks working in many divisions. She has spent time in the Patrol Division, Traffic Unit, Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit, and the Professional Standards Division. She has been a member of the Dive and Swift Water Rescue Team and has also worked as a Hostage Negotiator for the department.

Major Eubanks graduated from East Carolina University in May of 2014 with a Master's Degree in Public Administration. She now serves as the Interim Major of the Criminal Investigation Division.

     
 

Rick Harrell
Major, Patrol Operations Division

Major Harrell began his career with the Kinston Police Department in 1987.  During the course of his tenure he has achieved success in various sections of the agency in functions related to the Patrol / Traffic Division and Crime Scene Investigations as an investigator.  Supervisory positions have included Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Commander as he has served in divisions of Patrol, Investigations, Special Response, and Internal Affairs.  He has completed management courses through North Carolina State University as well as the Management Development Program from the North Carolina Justice Academy.  He has completed Business and Management courses through Lenoir Community College.  In addition to his regularly assigned duties from 1992 to 2009, Rick served as a SWAT Tactical Officer for the Kinston Department of Public Safety.
